Hotels Commemorate Legendary Star’s Stay by Naming the Suite After Them


Leading hotels who have the honor of hosting legendary movie stars often design and name suites after them. Hotel splendid in the town of Portofino was a favorite of actress Ava Gardner and was her home during the filming of The Barefoot Contessa, co-starring Humphrey Bogart and Edmond O’Brien. Their sister hotel Splendido Mare has dedicated a suite to her and converted the entire top floor into the Ava Gardner suite that boasts of a 603 square foot terrace adorned with a potted lemon tree and Mediterranean plants. The expansive bedroom and the well lit sitting room and the terrace connect to create a magnificent space.

Peter Sellers, the renowned British actor who is best known for the part he played of Inspector Clouseau in the legendary comic movie The Pink Panther has inspired Cristallo Hotel Spa & Golf to name one of its impressive Presidential Suites after the actor. A portion of the film was shot in the hotel in 1963. The Peter Sellers suite has an airy atmosphere with a large drawing room. The suite offers two sleeping accommodations with amazing bathing area, a Jacuzzi bath and hydro-massage shower. It is a perfect example of comfort and high level service.


Hotel Lancaster in Paris had started as a private residence and Marlene Dietrich, the siren of the classic film The Blue Angel lived there for three years in 1930s. The hotel has commemorated her stay with them by naming the fourth floor suite after her. The Marlene Dietrich suite is decorated in shades of violet which was the star’s favorite color. The suite boasts of a 380 square foot bedroom and a 560 square foot living room with private balconies. The suite was recently refurbished.
Capri Palace Hotel & Spa refurbished its Presidential penthouse suite in 2009 and dedicated it to the actress Gwyneth Platrow. The suite now features black marble flooring and antique furniture. The suite boasts of two bedrooms, a living and a dining area, hanging gardens and a heated swimming pool. The suite offers 360 degree panoramic view of the green slopes of Monte Solaro hill, the village of Anacapri, the islands of Ischia and Procida and the bay of Naples.

Elizabeth Taylor had once stayed in a fabulous suite at the Villa and Palazzo Aminta and the hotel has now named that suite in her honor. The suite is housed on the top floor of the hotel with stunning views of Borromean Islands and Lake Maggiore. The suite features a beautiful bedroom, a large marble bathroom, an elegant living room. The guests feel indulged with all the modern amenities in the suite.

Hotel du Palais in Biarritz was the favorite European retreat of the American film legend Gary Cooper. The 54 square meter residential suite of the hotel has been named after him. The suite features very large windows that provide stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The elegantly decorated suite boasts of large rooms that provide the ultimate in comfort. The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club, on the other hand, boasts of a range of suites named after film icons Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, Fred Astaire, and Ingrid Bergman. The suites located on different floors have different designs and size but they are all lavishly decorated and provide the ultimate in luxury.

The Hotel Royal Barrière hosts many movie stars during the American Film Festival every year and it pays homage to them by naming a suite after them. Elizabeth Taylor had the honor ob being the first star to have a suite named after her. It was decorated personally by the owner’s wife Marta Barriere and Liz Taylor had written a thank you note to her for honoring her in this way.
